Materials — 06
Materials.
Material is the beginning of every piece. We choose slowly, source directly and finish naturally — so each object ages into something better than the day it left the studio.
Six materials. Nothing decorative, nothing disposable — each one chosen because it earns its place through structure, touch and the way it changes over decades.
01 — Structure
Oak
White oak, grown in Northern European forests and cut in Sjælland. We use it for frames, steam-bent curves and shelving — chosen for its strength, its pale clarity, and the way it warms under oil.
- Origin
- Northern Europe
- Structure
- Steam-bent frames, solid boards
- Finish
- Hard wax, hand-rubbed
- Character
- Pale, strong, slowly warming
02 — Presence
Walnut
American black walnut, book-matched into slabs for our table tops. Dark, dense and luxurious without trying, it is the material we reach for when a piece needs presence.
- Origin
- Eastern United States
- Structure
- Book-matched slabs
- Finish
- Hard-wax, low sheen
- Character
- Dark, dense, quietly opulent
03 — Weight
Stone
Honed travertine and dark basalt from Italian quarries. Stone gives our smaller objects their weight and permanence — a side table that cannot be moved without thought.
- Origin
- Carrara & Bolzano, Italy
- Structure
- Solid blocks, honed
- Finish
- Honed, sealed
- Character
- Cool, tactile, grounding
04 — Line
Brushed metal
Steel and brass, brushed and left uncoated so they develop a soft patina with use. The metal elements of a piece are machined, then finished entirely by hand in Gothenburg.
- Origin
- Gothenburg workshop
- Structure
- Machined, brushed
- Finish
- Natural, uncoated
- Character
- Quiet, ageing with grace
05 — Light
Glass
Opaline glass, hand-blown in Öland, for our lamp diffusers. We favour opaline for the way it turns a bulb into a soft, even disc of light — warm, diffused, and without glare.
- Origin
- Öland, Sweden
- Structure
- Hand-blown, opaline
- Finish
- Annealed, sanded rim
- Character
- Soft, luminous, even
06 — Finish
Natural finishes
Hard wax, linseed oil, shellac — no lacquers, no plastic coatings. A natural finish lets the material breathe and be touched; it is designed to be re-applied by hand, every few years, as a small ritual.
- Origin
- Studio-applied
- Structure
- Oil, wax, shellac
- Finish
- Hand-rubbed
- Character
- Breathing, repairable, honest
Every finish is natural. Every surface is meant to be touched. And every material can be re-applied, repaired or replaced — because an object that lasts is the most sustainable thing we make.
