Studio — Copenhagen

Small, slow, specific.

OBJECT/FORM is an independent design practice of four people in Copenhagen. We are not a factory and not a brand — we are a studio that treats furniture with the patience usually reserved for architecture.

Philosophy

Design, for us, is a sequence of decisions — about material, proportion, joint and finish. When each decision is honest, the object becomes inevitable.

“We do not decorate rooms. We make the few objects a room deserves.”

Approach — 01/04

On form.

01

Begin with material

A piece often begins with a single plank, a block of stone or a sheet of steel. We ask what the material wants to be before we draw a line.

Material first
02

Work at full scale

We prototype at 1:1. A full-size mock-up tells the truth about proportion, weight and how a body meets an object; scale models only flatter.

03

Design the joint

Joints are where craft lives. We design every connection to be visible and honest — dovetail, bridle, mortise and tenon, threaded brass.

04

Stop at restraint

When a form is right, it resists improvement. We stop there, finish by hand, and let the material age.

Nothing extra

Collaboration

Made with people, not machines.

Five workshops. One studio. Zero assembly lines.

Limited production

Editions, not inventory.

Every object is made to order in an edition of eight, plus two artist’s proofs. Each piece is numbered, signed and documented in the studio archive; patterns and drawings are kept, so a piece can be serviced for decades. When an edition is complete, it is closed — permanently.

  • Edition of eight, plus two artist’s proofs
  • Numbered, signed and archived in the studio ledger
  • Made to order — nothing sits in a warehouse
  • Drawings kept for lifetime servicing and repair
  • Closed editions — never re-issued
